Dave Butler was a member of the Leesburg Planning Commission, Utility Rate Advisory Committee and Standing Residential Traffic Committee prior to his election to Council in 2008.  He also chaired the SE/SW Trails Committee during the summer and fall of 2006.  He holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson University and a M.S. degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Syracuse University.  He is currently Council's liaison to the following:

Leesburg Environmental Advisory Commission
Leesburg Tree Commission
Leesburg Economic Development Commission
Virginia Municipal League's Environmental Quality Committee

Council Member Butler is currently the treasurer for St. Gabriel's Church in Leesburg.  From 2007 to 2009 he was the Senior Warden, and was instrumental in the expansion of the Alternative Gift Fair in Loudoun County.  He also enjoys reading for Head Start and fixing homes for the Christmas in April program.

He previously served as council liaison to the Leesburg Technology and Communication Commission.

Council Member Butler is a native of Oswego, NY right on Lake Ontario.  After too many snowy winters, he moved to Leesburg in early 2002.  He is the Chief Security Officer for National Electronics Warranty in Sterling, VA.  He is married to Pamela Butler, President of Loudoun Lyric Opera, and has two sons, Alex and Daniel, who are students at Cool Spring Elementary.
